Sea Anchors are very useful for two reasons, one for safety and for Drift Fishing.
In both cases these anchors will slow the drift of the boat down or will hold the boat in the direction you require.
For soft bait fishing lot of fish people deploy sea anchors off the stern of the boat, this allows more space for casting and retrieving soft baits and hopefully fish.
In the case of safety, for any reason or if the motor stops and its too deep to anchor just take your anchor rope, attach it to the sea anchor and deploy over the bow of the boat, like you would normally anchor.
This will make your boat lay with your bow to the wind and waves, making it much safer if you need to work on your outboard or wait for help.
